Our Take

A detailed LEGO Icons set recreating the DeLorean time machine from the Back to the Future trilogy. The set includes three configuration options representing different film versions of the car, all equipable are the lighting rod from the first film, Mr Fusion from the second and white wall tyres from the third and final chapter. The set is aimed squarely at adult fans and nostalgic collectors rather than children. It's in LEGO's premium adult range, and priced accordingly at around £170. Also included are Marty and Doc Brown mini figures and hover board.

Key Features

1,872 pieces building a highly detailed DeLorean DMC-12 time machine

Three film-accurate configurations: 1985 original, 1885 steam-era, and 2015 hover-conversion

Comes with minifigures of Marty McFly and Doc Brown, plus the Einstein the dog figure

Our Verdict

An excellent purchase for adult LEGO enthusiasts and Back to the Future fans who want a display-worthy centrepiece. The multi-configuration design justifies much of the cost. Those seeking pure playability or a larger shelf presence for the money may find alternatives in the Icons range better suited.

What We Like

  • Exceptional film accuracy makes it a genuinely satisfying display piece for franchise fans
  • Three-in-one configuration options add considerable replay and display value
  • Build experience is engaging throughout, with complexity appropriate for adult builders

Things to Consider

  • RRP around £175 places it beyond casual impulse-buy territory
  • Swapping between configurations requires partially disassembling the model, which may frustrate some
  • Minifigure likenesses are functional rather than portrait-accurate, as is typical for LEGO
  • Completed model is relatively compact for the price compared to some other Icons sets
