Our Take
The LEGO Icons Colosseum is a vast, highly detailed recreation of Rome's ancient amphitheatre, aimed squarely at adult builders. With over 9,000 pieces, it held the title of LEGO's largest set at launch in 2020. It sits at the premium end of the Icons (formerly Creator Expert) range, designed for display rather than play. The set manages to reproduce lots of original features like travertine paving stones, archways, olive trees and hypogeum. This set is now discontinued.
Key Features
9,036 pieces, making it one of the largest LEGO sets ever produced
Recreates all three architectural orders: Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian columns across three storeys
Built as three removable sections, allowing the interior structure and arena floor to be examined
Includes a detailed cross-section revealing underground hypogeum passages beneath the arena
Weathered stone colouring achieved through a mix of tan, dark tan, and light grey bricks
Finished dimensions of approximately 27cm tall, 52cm wide, and 59cm deep when fully assembled
Our Verdict
Ideal for adult LEGO enthusiasts, history buffs, or architecture fans who want a serious long-term project and a striking display piece. Those after play value, minifigures, or a more modest price point should look at smaller sets in the Icons range instead.
