Our Take
The Dark Falcon takes one of the most recognisable ships in Star Wars and gives it a suitably sinister makeover. Based on the alternate-universe storyline seen in the Disney+ LEGO Star Wars special, the set reimagines the Millennium Falcon as a dark-side vessel, complete with an imposing black and red colour scheme and an equally unconventional cast of characters. Aimed primarily at older children and collectors, The Dark Falcon sits towards the mid-to-upper end of the LEGO Star Wars range in both size and price. It follows the familiar Millennium Falcon format, with hinged upper panels that open to reveal a surprisingly detailed interior, giving the model plenty of play value without compromising its appeal as a display piece. Much of the set’s personality comes from its excellent minifigure selection. Six are included: Darth Jar Jar, Bounty Hunter C-3PO, Darth Dev, Darth Rey, Beach Luke and Jedi Vader. It is an intentionally unusual line-up that embraces the more playful side of Star Wars, with lightsabers and a selection of other accessories included to complete the characters. While there have been numerous LEGO versions of the Millennium Falcon over the years, The Dark Falcon manages to feel genuinely different. Its darker styling, unusual characters and alternative take on familiar Star Wars ideas give it an identity of its own, making it particularly appealing to collectors who already have a more traditional Falcon in their collection.
