LEGO Technic Volvo FMX Truck & EC230 Electric Excavator 42175

Building Sets & Construction Toys

Our Take

A large-scale LEGO Technic collaboration set recreating Volvo's FMX heavy haulage truck and EC230 electric excavator as a twin vehicle pack. Aimed at builders aged 11 and up, it sits at the premium end of the Technic range, appealing to construction vehicle enthusiasts and collectors who want genuine Volvo branding and mechanical detail in their builds.

Key Features

Contains 2,897 pieces across both vehicle models

Officially licensed Volvo design with authentic FMX cab and EC230 excavator proportions

Excavator features a working boom arm with hydraulic-style movement via Technic levers

FMX truck includes a tilting cab function to access a detailed engine representation underneath

Excavator's upper body rotates a full 360 degrees

Truck bed is designed to transport the excavator, making the two models function together as a set

Our Verdict

A rewarding buy for committed Technic fans aged 12 and up who appreciate real-world construction machinery and want a display-worthy centrepiece. Those hoping for motorised action or a quicker build should look at smaller Technic sets; this one demands time, patience, and a reasonable budget.

What We Like

Twin-vehicle concept gives genuine play value and display versatility
Mechanical functions on both models reward the building effort
Volvo licensing adds credibility and visual accuracy for enthusiasts

Things to Consider

Price point is steep, placing it out of reach for casual buyers
At nearly 3,000 pieces, the build commitment is considerable and not suitable for younger children despite the lower age suggestion
The excavator's functions, while satisfying, are manually operated rather than motorised, which may disappoint those expecting more
