Nintendo Holds Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Direct Today at 3pm BST

Nintendo is holding a dedicated Direct presentation for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave today, Tuesday 4 August 2026, at 3pm BST. The broadcast runs for approximately 20 minutes and promises a substantial look at the gameplay mechanics and features of the upcoming Switch 2 exclusive. UK viewers can watch live on YouTube, Nintendo.com, or via the Nintendo Today! smart-device app.

What to expect from today's Direct

Nintendo teased the broadcast on social media ahead of time, framing the show around the game's central competitive premise. The official announcement read:

"The Heroic Games are approaching! Tune in on Aug 4 at 7am PT for the Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Direct, featuring roughly 20 minutes of new information about the game."

The presentation is billed as a deep dive rather than a quick trailer drop, so fans should expect a meaningful look at systems, story, and structure rather than a simple announcement reel. This is the first game-specific Nintendo Direct since the Splatoon Raiders Direct, which ran on 30 June 2026 and clocked in at around 15 minutes.

What we already know about Fortune's Weave

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is the eighteenth main instalment in Nintendo's long-running tactical RPG series, following Fire Emblem: Engage in 2023. It is being developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. The game is due to launch worldwide on 17 September 2026.

The setting is Dagsion, capital city of the Dagdan Empire, where fighters from across the land have gathered to compete in the Heroic Games — a tournament in which the prize is a single wish. Four heroes are at the centre of the story, and players choose which of them to follow from the outset.

Nintendo's official description sets out the four protagonists:

"Discover an intertwining story of strength and steel alongside four new heroes: Cai, a young boy determined to save his imprisoned father; Dietrich, a swordsman ever on the hunt for a stronger foe; Theodora, a queen seeking to fulfil the long-held dream of her homeland; and Leda, a musician with her sights set on revenge."

Each of the four — Cai, Theodora, Dietrich, and Leda — leads to their own individual story route, a structure similar to Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The connection to that game runs deeper than structure alone: Fortune's Weave is confirmed to take place in the same world as Three Houses, set in the Dagdan Empire which neighbours the region of Fodlan. The goddess Sothis, a key figure in Three Houses, is also confirmed to appear, though her role has not yet been detailed.

Gameplay: what's returning and what's new

Fortune's Weave is a turn-based tactical RPG played on grid-based maps. A number of mechanics familiar to series veterans are returning, including Combat Arts, Gambits, Weapon Durability, Crests, and Hero's Relics — several of which featured prominently in Three Houses. The game also introduces Blaze Arts, a new category of special moves.

Outside of battles, the game uses a calendar-based structure. Between tournament matches, players have limited time to explore Dagsion — training, eating meals with allies, or recruiting new units. The time-limited nature of these activities means players will not be able to do everything before the next fight, which adds a layer of prioritisation familiar to Three Houses veterans. Character designer Chinatsu Kurahana, who worked on Three Houses, is among the staff involved in Fortune's Weave.

The game supports TV mode, Tabletop mode, and Handheld mode, and is a single-player experience. Nintendo notes an estimated file size of 29.5GB for the digital version, though it cautions this figure may change before release.

Three editions have been confirmed for the UK:

• Digital (Nintendo eShop): £58.99
• Physical (standard): UK price not officially confirmed at time of writing — the US physical edition is priced at $80.
• Dagdan Collection (special edition): £92.99, available to pre-order now via the Nintendo Store. Includes a physical copy of the game, a steel game case, character art cards, a map of Dagda, and a 200-page artbook.

Pre-orders for the Dagdan Collection are open through the Nintendo UK Store. The digital edition is available to pre-order via the Nintendo eShop.

The Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Direct begins at 3pm BST today. It is also broadcasting at 7am PT / 10am ET for viewers in North America, and at 11pm JST. The stream is live on the official Nintendo YouTube channel, Nintendo.com, and the Nintendo Today! app on smart devices.

Fortune's Weave was first announced in a Nintendo Direct on 12 September 2025. Its release date of 17 September 2026 was confirmed during the Nintendo Direct on 9 June 2026. Today's presentation is the first dedicated showcase the game has received, and with the launch now just six weeks away, it is likely to be one of the more substantial looks at the title before it reaches shelves.
