Icon Blue DualSense pre-orders open today for PS Plus members

PlayStation Plus members in the UK can pre-order the Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense wireless controller from today, Tuesday 25 August 2026, with general pre-orders following on 27 August. The controller is due to go on sale on 25 September 2026, exclusively through direct.playstation.com. No other UK retail partners have been confirmed at the time of writing.

The announcement was reported by Notebookcheck on 20 August, after the official PlayStation UK account posted details on X. It marks the first time the Icon Blue colourway has been made officially available in the United Kingdom, following a launch that was originally restricted to North America when the controller debuted last October.

What the controller looks like

The Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense has a dual-tone design that PlayStation says was directly inspired by the blue glow the controller emits when a PS5 powers on. The touchpad and thumbsticks are a lighter shade of blue, while the handles and rear panel are darker. The touchpad itself is decorated with glossy PlayStation icons — the familiar triangle, circle, cross and square — and the D-pad and action buttons carry white markings that stand out against the blue.

One of the more distinctive touches is on the back of the controller, where the word "PlayStation" is written in Katakana characters. Sony designer Leo Cardoso, from the Color, Material and Finish design team, explained the thinking behind the overall concept when the controller was first unveiled in October 2025:

"From the moment the console powers on and the DualSense controller lights up, that signature blue glow signals the start of something special. It's the spark that draws you into new worlds and immersive gameplay. Inspired by PlayStation's iconic shades of blue, this design captures the feeling of anticipation and wonder every time you pick up the controller. As a nod to our origins, we added Katakana characters on the back that spell our name the Japanese way: Pureisutēshon."

The controller is also positioned as part of Sony's ongoing celebration of PlayStation's 30th anniversary, which began on 9 September 2025.

Hardware: nothing new under the hood

Beyond the finish, the Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense is hardware-identical to every other DualSense controller on the market. That means buyers get adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, a built-in microphone, motion controls and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Connectivity covers PS5, PC, Mac and compatible mobile devices via either wired USB-C or Bluetooth.

For anyone already in the DualSense ecosystem, there is no functional reason to upgrade — but for those who have been holding out for this specific colourway, the spec sheet will be exactly what they expect.

Pricing: still unconfirmed

Sony has not yet announced a UK retail price for the Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense. The controller launched in the United States in October 2025 at $84.99, exclusively through Walmart, and went on sale in Japan earlier this month at ¥12,480 including tax. Neither figure translates directly to a UK price, and PlayStation has not offered guidance.

For context, recent special edition DualSense controllers — including the Hyperpop Collection range — were priced at £74.99 at PlayStation Direct UK. That is the closest comparable data point available, but it is not a confirmed figure for the Icon Blue model. ToyScout will update this article as soon as Sony publishes the RRP.

How the UK fits into the wider rollout

When Sony first unveiled the Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense in October 2025, the UK was explicitly not among the launch markets. Availability was limited to the US and Canada from 20 October, then Mexico and Chile from 28 October — all sold exclusively through Walmart. Japan followed with pre-orders ahead of a 6 August 2026 release.

The UK announcement therefore represents a meaningful widening of availability for a design that had, until now, been entirely out of reach for British buyers through official channels. Anyone who wanted the controller previously would have faced the cost and complication of importing from North America, with no local warranty cover.

What to do now

If you are a PS Plus subscriber, pre-orders are open from today at direct.playstation.com. Everyone else can pre-order from Thursday 27 August. The controller is due to ship on 25 September 2026.
