PS Plus Extra August 2026: Helldivers 2 confirmed for UK subscribers

Sony surprise-dropped its biggest co-op shooter into the PS Plus Game Catalog on 12 August, alongside a major new update and a community-wide challenge.

What you need to know

  • Helldivers 2 landed in the PS Plus Extra and Premium Game Catalog on 12 August 2026, available worldwide including the UK.
  • The drop coincided with the Devoid of Liberty update, raising the level cap to 300 and adding new enemy types and missions.
  • The full August lineup rolls out in stages: most titles arrive 18 August, with Hell Is Us, Two Point Museum, Metro Exodus and Dying Light 2 due on 25 August.

Sony drops Helldivers 2 into PS Plus Extra with immediate worldwide access

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on 12 August 2026 that Helldivers 2 had been added to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog — and, unusually, made it available the very same day. UK subscribers on the Extra or Premium tier gained access immediately, without the typical week-long wait between announcement and availability.

The move was flagged ahead of time: PlayStation had teased the addition during its June 2026 State of Play, but the precise timing caught many off guard. Sony pushed the game out ahead of the rest of August's catalog, which is being staggered across three separate dates rather than dropped in a single batch.

What the Devoid of Liberty update adds

The catalog arrival was timed to coincide with the launch of the Helldivers 2: Devoid of Liberty update, meaning new subscribers are walking into a meaningfully expanded game. According to Sony, the update introduces new missions and objectives, the ability to drop SEAF platoons to assist players mid-mission, a raised level cap of 300, and new enemy types — including the Illuminate's The Wretch and The Crusher.

A new warbond also became available for purchase from 12 August, offering armours, weapons, and vehicle patterns for players wanting to customise their Helldiver.

The influx of new players is being channelled directly into a live community event: the Helldivers 2 community has been challenged to collectively eliminate 500 million enemies by 18 August. Completing the challenge unlocks four Helldiver PlayStation avatars for participants.

Full August 2026 PS Plus Extra and Premium lineup

This month's catalog additions are arriving in three waves. The confirmed schedule for UK subscribers is:

  • 12 August (live now): Helldivers 2
  • 18 August: Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Vampire Survivors; plus PS Plus Premium Classics — Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams and Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire
  • 25 August: Hell Is Us, Umamusume Pretty Derby – Party Dash, Two Point Museum, Metro Exodus, Dying Light 2

That is ten titles in total across the Game Catalog and Classics Catalog. Sony notes that Game Catalog availability can vary by region, so individual PlayStation Stores may not receive every game on exactly the same date.

How much does PS Plus cost in the UK?

To access Helldivers 2 and the rest of the Game Catalog, UK players need at least the Extra tier. Current monthly pricing, following increases confirmed by PlayStation in May 2026, is as follows:

  • Essential: £7.99/month or £59.99/year
  • Extra: £11.99/month or £83.99/year
  • Premium: £14.49/month or £119.99/year

The May 2026 price changes affected monthly and three-month plans. Annual subscriptions across all three tiers were unaffected. Helldivers 2 itself retails at around £29.99 at Currys, making the annual Extra subscription a reasonable proposition for anyone who has been sitting on the fence about the game.

Sony has not confirmed how long Helldivers 2 will remain in the catalog. Licensing terms for Extra catalog titles typically run between six and twelve months before publishers decide whether to renew.

Context: 22.9 million players and a film in the pipeline

Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, launched in 2024 and quickly became one of the standout co-op releases of that year. As of 9 August 2026, Sony confirmed the game has welcomed more than 22.9 million players across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

PS Plus Extra members can join squads of up to four players in the cooperative third-person shooter, working together on challenging missions set against the backdrop of an evolving Galactic War. The game has continued to expand since launch with new storylines, enemy types, character customisation options, and collaborations.

Looking further ahead, a Helldivers film from Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions is scheduled for theatrical release on 10 November 2027, giving the franchise continued commercial momentum well beyond this month's catalog addition.

For context, July 2026's PS Plus Extra lineup included Rise of the Ronin. August is considered a step up from that already strong month, with Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and Dying Light 2 still to land before the end of the month.

Why it matters

For UK subscribers on the Extra tier, Helldivers 2 is effectively free on top of a £11.99 monthly subscription — a game that currently retails at around £29.99 at Currys. Sony's timing is sharp: by waiting until the game had 22.9 million players and a substantial content library behind it, subscribers are getting a more complete product than was available at launch. Throw in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and Dying Light 2 still to come this month, and August 2026 is shaping up as one of the stronger Game Catalog months in recent memory.
