GTA 6 Confirmed for 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

The date is set — and this time Rockstar means it

After more than a decade of waiting and two delays, Grand Theft Auto VI finally has a date that Rockstar Games is sticking to. The studio has confirmed that GTA 6 will launch on Thursday, 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar first announced the date in a Newswire post on 6 November 2025, and Take-Two reaffirmed it during its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings update on 21 May 2026. Sony's official product page states plainly that "Grand Theft Auto VI is released for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro on November 19, 2026."

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has been characteristically direct about the studio's commitment to the date. "When we set a date, we really do believe in it," he said. "We said when we set the last date, if a game requires more polish to be the best possible version of itself, then we will give that game more time. And that's exactly what happened." Rockstar, he added, is "seeking perfection" with GTA 6.

The game follows criminal duo Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval through the fictional state of Leonida. Rockstar's pre-order press release describes GTA VI as "a single-player experience". An online mode has not been confirmed for launch.

Trailer 3 is coming — but not at a civilised hour for UK viewers

Rockstar has announced that a third trailer — officially titled Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look — is due to premiere on 27 August 2026, exclusively on Netflix at 3pm ET. For UK viewers without a Netflix subscription, the trailer will be available free on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI site at 2am BST on 28 August, six hours after the Netflix debut.

The Netflix partnership is notable in its own right. According to a Netflix blog post: "In a first-of-its-kind partnership with Netflix, Rockstar Games announced today that Netflix subscribers will have the opportunity to watch an extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI on Thursday, Aug. 27 at 3 p.m. ET." Netflix also noted: "The new iteration in the blockbuster series comes 13 years following the debut of GTAV, the same year that Netflix was beginning its push into original programming. This collaboration represents the next generation of storytelling and content on Netflix." This is the first time a publisher has used Netflix to release a game trailer.

UK pricing: what it costs and where to pre-order

UK pricing has been confirmed on both the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store. According to TechRadar, GTA 6 will cost £69.99 for the Standard Edition and £89.99 for the Ultimate Edition. Pre-orders are available now from Amazon UK, GAME, Currys, Argos, Smyths, the PlayStation Store, the Xbox Store, and the Rockstar Store.

PlayStation Store pre-orders come with one bonus: pre-order before 20 November 2026 to receive one month of GTA+ at no extra cost.

The physical edition: no disc inside

This is where UK buyers need to read the small print carefully. Rockstar has confirmed that the physical edition of GTA 6 will not include a disc. Both the Standard and Ultimate Editions ship as a code-in-a-box — a physical case containing a digital download voucher redeemable on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. The code is single-use and locks to your account permanently.

That means:

• You cannot lend the game to a friend
• You cannot resell or trade in your copy
• You will need to download the full game regardless of which version you buy

Boxed copies are due to go on sale from 12 November — a week before launch — so that buyers can redeem the code and pre-load the game ahead of release night.

There is also a region-lock issue to be aware of. According to Push Square and several UK retailers including Amazon, GAME, Smyths, ShopTo, and TheGameCollection, PS5 listings carry a warning: "The PlayStation 5 version can only be used by users holding an account for PlayStation registered to the United Kingdom." The advice from retailers is straightforward: buy from a UK digital storefront or a UK retailer to avoid any complications.

What platforms will it run on?

GTA 6 is confirmed for PS5 (including PS5 Pro) and Xbox Series X and Series S on day one — there is no timed exclusivity between platforms. It is not coming to PS4. There is no PC version announced — no date, no storefront listing, no system requirements. Based on Rockstar's history with GTA 5, which arrived on PC roughly 18 months after consoles, a PC release is widely anticipated, but nothing official has been confirmed.

A long road to November

GTA 6 has been delayed twice. Rockstar first pushed it from a planned autumn 2025 window to 26 May 2026, then delayed it a second time in November 2025 to its current 19 November date. By the time it launches, it will have been more than 13 years since GTA 5 first arrived. The original trailer, released in December 2023, broke viewership records with over 90 million views in its first 24 hours on YouTube.

For now, all eyes turn to 27 August, when the extended look trailer is due to offer the clearest picture yet of what Rockstar has spent that time building.
